Portrait of artist Shay Chenette

A practice built on memory, music and the people who carry both.

Shay Chenette is a painter, muralist and body artist whose work moves between canvas, reclaimed wood, architecture and skin. Working in acrylic, ink, charcoal and gold leaf, she builds portraits that feel less like documents and more like recollections — layered, saturated, unresolved in the right places.

Her collections trace that instinct in different directions: The Playlist turns songs into figures, Art of Wood lets salvaged grain guide the line, Kodak Neon treats memory like exposed film, and White & Gold reduces everything to light.

Alongside studio work, Shay paints large-scale murals for homes, hospitality and public space, and creates painted-body work for editorial, film and events. She also builds space for other artists through community projects, panels and mentorship.
